Philip Kotler (born 1931 in Chicago) is an American marketing scholar and author, widely regarded as the father of modern marketing. He is the S.C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing, Emeritus, at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he taught from 1962 to 2018.

His textbook 'Marketing Management', first published in 1967, is the world's most widely used marketing textbook and is now in its sixteenth edition. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 books — translated into over 25 languages — on topics ranging from social marketing and place marketing to marketing's role in addressing inequality and sustainability, and has consulted for major corporations and governments worldwide.

His honours include being named the first 'Leader in Marketing Thought' by the American Marketing Association, induction into the Marketing Hall of Fame, and numerous honorary doctorates and international awards.
