Albert Bourla

Bourla began his career at Pfizer in 1993, initially serving in the technical division of the company's animal health business in Greece. He subsequently held multiple executive positions across various global divisions, including serving as the group president of Pfizer's Innovative Health business. Before his appointment as chief executive officer in 2019, he functioned as the company's chief operating officer.
His leadership tenure has been characterized by a strategic reorganization of the company to prioritize research and development in biopharmaceuticals. Bourla oversaw the development and distribution of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine during the global pandemic. He represents the company on several industry boards, including the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization.
In addition to his corporate roles, Bourla is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Business Roundtable. He also serves on the boards of the Pfizer Foundation and Catalyst, an organization focused on workplace inclusion. In 2022, he was recognized with the Genesis Prize for his contributions to pharmaceutical innovation and public health.
