Thomas Leysen is a prominent figure in the Belgian corporate sector, currently serving as the Chairman of d'Ieteren Group. He previously held the position of Chairman at the multinational materials technology company Umicore from 2008 to 2020, where he also served as Chief Executive Officer starting in 2000. During his tenure at Umicore, he oversaw the company's transition from a traditional mining business to a global materials and recycling group.

In addition to his industrial leadership, Leysen has held significant roles in the financial and media sectors. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KBC Group, a major Belgian integrated bank-insurance company, between 2011 and 2020. He also acts as the Chairman of Mediahuis, a private European media group with operations across several countries including Belgium, the Netherlands, and Ireland.

His institutional contributions include serving as the Chairman of the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB) from 2008 to 2011. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of several international organizations and has been involved with the Trilateral Commission. In 2019, he was appointed as the Chairman of the King Baudouin Foundation, a large independent foundation in Belgium.
