Axel A. Weber

Axel Alfred Weber began his professional career in academia, serving as a professor of international economics at the University of Cologne and later at the Goethe University Frankfurt. His academic work focused on monetary policy and international finance, leading to his appointment to the German Council of Economic Experts in 2002. During this period, he also served as the Director of the Center for Financial Studies in Frankfurt.

In 2004, Weber transitioned into public service upon his appointment as President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the central bank of Germany. In this capacity, he held a seat on the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) until 2011. Following his tenure in central banking, he joined the private sector in 2012 as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for UBS Group AG, a position he held until his retirement from the role in April 2022.

Beyond his corporate and regulatory roles, Weber holds several leadership positions in international policy organizations. He serves as the European Chairman of the Trilateral Commission and is a member of the Group of Thirty. He has also contributed to the Institute of International Finance, where he previously served as Chairman of the Board, and has held visiting professorships at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
