Keith Rupert Murdoch (born 11 March 1931 in Melbourne) is an Australian-American media proprietor. He inherited the Adelaide newspaper The News from his father in 1952 and expanded the business into a group of Australian titles before entering the British market in 1969 with the acquisition of the News of the World and The Sun.

He founded News Corporation in 1980, acquiring The Times and The Sunday Times in 1981, and became a United States citizen in 1985 in order to establish the Fox Broadcasting Company. His holdings later included the film studio Twentieth Century Fox, the Fox News Channel and, from 2007, Dow Jones & Company and The Wall Street Journal.

In 2013 the group was separated into News Corp, covering publishing, and Twenty-First Century Fox, covering entertainment; the latter's entertainment assets were sold to the Walt Disney Company in 2019 and the remainder reorganised as Fox Corporation. Murdoch stepped down as chairman of both companies in November 2023 and holds the title of chairman emeritus.
